Updates on U of M stormwater studies: phosphorus and PAHs in pond sediments and a draft Stormwater Research Roadmap for Minnesota

Raymond Hozalski, Department of Civil, Environmental and Geo- Engineering, Jacques Finlay, Ecology, Evolution and Behavior, and Larry Baker, Department of Biosystem and Bioproducts Engineering, University of Minnesota

Three short talks by UM researchers will present new findings from an ongoing stormwater management project, funded by the  MPCA with Clean Water Legacy funds. The first two talks deal with management of stormwater ponds. The first will examine the topic of phosphorus accumulation and release, presented by Jacques Finlay, and the second will look at PAH accumulation and risk assessment, presented by Ray Holzaski. The third talk, presented by Larry Baker, discusses development of a state-wide Stormwater Research Roadmap, informed by a new, state-wide survey of stormwater managers, workshops, policy actor interviews, and prior studies. The overarching goal is to develop a “research roadmap” process that can be repeated in concert with each of the Clean Water Council’s 5-year Clean Water Plans, allowing continuous adaptation toward achieving Minnesota’s Clean Water goals.
