This flume was designed and fabricated through the NSF ARI-R2 renovation project and is a one-of-a-kind facility for examining interactions between moving fluid and the physiology of living organisms. The flume features a racetrack planform design with recirculating flow that is powered by a spinning paddle.
- 10 m long x 0.6 m wide x 0.2 m deep (32.8 ft x 2 ft x 0.7 ft)
- Clear acryllic walls to allow sunlight to promote growth of photosynthetic organisms
- Variable flow speed
- Temperature regulated through heat exchange fins within the flume
- One section has option for moving bed configuration
