Weighing pans and the sediment recirculating system designed and developed by SAFL researchers to accurately measure bedload transport. |

The bedload weighing system shown here is part of a sediment recirculation system in SAFL's Main Channel. Bedload is trapped by 5 funnels spanning the width of the flume floor and conveyed to 5 weighing drums freely hanging from load cells above the flume. Sediment flux is measured and recorded automatically once per second. After being weighed, the sediment is dumped and recirculated to the upstream end of the flume.
