Alvin G. Anderson
Director of St. Anthony Falls Laboratory
1974-1975
Dr. Alvin Anderson had his initial exposure to hydraulic engineering as a student of Lorenz Straub's in the early 1930's, both as an undergraduate and a graduate student in the Civil Engineering Department. After receiving his Master's degree in 1935, he went to work for the Soil Conservation Service. In 1943 he joined Straub in New York City at the office of the National Defense Research Committee. He returned to the University of Minnesota and the Laboratory in 1945. He received his PhD in 1950, and spent the remainder of his career there. He was named Director of the Laboratory on July 1, 1974, and he died suddenly exactly one year from the day he had assumed that post.
